Numerical investigation of generic roof spoiler forms
This was a practical project of automotive fluid mechanics subject. I took this subject in order to fulfill the subject catalog of computational method. STAR CCM+ Version 10.04 was used to simulate the characteristics of a car regarding its generic roof spoiler forms. I got 1.3 point (German grading system) for this subject. Instead of posting all of the report with the 43 pages in total, I only explain the main point of the simulation with some images from the simulation. Project Description and goal
In general, the form of a car has a huge impact on the air resistance and on the fuel consumption. One major goal of every car manufacturer is to optimize the form of the car to minimize the drag. Residual plot and numerical calculation of drag force are considered as convergence criteria. Velocity magnitude, pressure, turbulent kinetic energy were shown in the simulation scalar scene in order to see the characteristics of certain car forms.
